Xiaomi joins the Wireless Power Consortium; Mi 7 could feature wireless charging

Once known as China’s Apple, Xiaomi is apparently following in Apple’s footsteps when it comes to wireless charging. The 2017 iPhone models all support wireless charging for the first time, and apparently the next Xiaomi flagship model will too. Today, the Chinese manufacturer apparently joined the Wireless Power Consortium, the group of tech firms that have the goal of promoting the Qi wireless charging platform.

Apple joined the consortium in February, and while Xiaomi hasn’t made an official announcement, the company is listed on the WPC website as a member. As a result, we would expect …

The new iPhones will support fast wireless charging

So, Apple’s new iPhones are finally getting wireless charging! We’d insert a cheering minions GIF here if they weren’t so overused. Not only that, the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X all support fast charging over the wire. Well, there’s the small caveat that you need to invest an extra $75 in a wallplug and cable that provide that fast charging, but at least the option is there, right?

At first, we thought that the new iPhones would not support any form of fast wireless charging. And it seems that’s going to be true at launch. However, browsing through the Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad …

Over 1,400 Powermat Charging Spot locations are waiting to wirelessly charge your iPhone X and iPhone 8

With the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus (all
announced yesterday), Apple finally has smartphones that support wireless
charging. Hooray! Now, while Apple plans to release its own AirPower wireless charging
mat, this won’t be out before 2018. Until then, you’ll have to buy third-party
wireless charging accessories if you want to charge your new iPhone cable-free
in your home.

Fortunately, you’ll also be able to wirelessly charge any of
the three new iPhones even if you don’t actually own a compatible accessory, as
long as you visit a location where Powermat Charging Spots are …

iPhone 8 wireless charging reportedly not fast

It’s pretty much confirmed that the premium Apple iPhone 8 (or iPhone Pro, or whatever it’s called) will include wireless charging but the specifics of how it will work and if it will use a wireless charging standard or something proprietary (as Apple tends to do). But, the latest report says the iPhone 8 wireless charging might not be too fast.

According to an unnamed source for Macotakara, the iPhone 8 will use the Qi wireless standard, but it will not go for the full 15 watt charging that is part of the Qi 1.2 standard, which would be considered “quick charging.” Instead, …

Need more proof that the new iPhones will have wireless charging? Here's a $50 stand

RAVPower, the maker of all things powerbank and charging, has given us one more tangential evidence that the upcoming iPhone crop will indeed feature a wireless method to pump them full of electrons. It has apparently already in production of a wireless charging stand with the Qi standard that can output no less than 10 watts of power, or double what the wired iPhone chargers provide, due to the inevitable power loss when charging through the ether.

Thus, the RAVPower chief has sent the following statement which all but confirms that the company …

Once again, rumors call for 2017 iPhone users to shell out cash for wireless charging accessories

Rumors that the tenth anniversary iPhone, currently known as the Apple iPhone 8, will feature wireless charging have been around for some time. Actually, all three rumored 2017 iPhone models could be the first iOS powered handsets to offer this feature. So-called Apple expert John Gruber sent out a tweet last July indicating that the charging pads for the Apple iPhone 8, Apple iPhone 7s and Apple iPhone 7s Plus will be sold separately.

The CEO of contract assembler Wriston, Robert Hwang, said earlier this year that wireless charging on the iPhone requires the new models to undergo …

Alleged Apple wireless charging pads appear in bare-naked photo shoot

It has been rumored for a while now that Apple’s iPhone 7s and iPhone 8 will have wireless charging. In fact, the 7s and 7s Plus are expected to be thicker than the current duo of Apple flagships due to the glass back they will have — you can’t have inductive charging if the phone’s back is bare metal. Now, we get a look at the charging pads during the manufacturing process.

Update: A photo of an alleged battery sticker for the future iPhones has also popped up. It appears to have a cutout for the wireless charging coil inside the phone

Well… allegedly. …

Wireless charging technology for 2017 iPhone models is running late; hardware to be sold separately

As Apple iPhone 7 Plus users know, sometimes a new feature runs late and you have to wait for a software update to receive it. That happened with the Portrait Mode that produces the professional looking blurring effect on portraits snapped with the camera, also known as bokeh. The software needed to create the effect didn’t ship with the iPhone 7 Plus, and appeared with the first iOS 10.1 beta.

According to tech tipster John Gruber, this could be how Apple will disseminate the necessary software to enable wireless charging on the 2017 iPhone models. In a tweet posted yesterday, Gruber notes …
