Asus ZenFone 5 Max with Android 8.0 Oreo gets certified ahead of official announcement

It appears that Asus plans to launch a new ZenFone series much earlier than last year. As many of you probably know by now, the ZenFone 4 smartphones were delayed several months, thus hurting Asus’ revenue.

However, the company’s CEO Jerry Shen promised fans that it won’t happen again and that the first ZenFone 5 smartphones should be unveiled as early as March. That means we might see these devices at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, which is set to kick off in late February.

It’s yet unclear whether or not the unannounced Asus ZenFone 5 Max will be unveiled at MWC, but the device …

Mystery ZTE phone gets certified by Wi-Fi Alliance with Android 8.1 installed; is it the Axon 8?

ZTE is not a brand that dominates the conversation around the dinner table in the states, although its profile might have received a little boost with the release of the ZTE Axon M. The dual-screened folding phone (yeah, we said it) may not offer the form factor that the Samsung Galaxy X will, but these are still early days for this category. We digress. What we want to discuss now is a new mystery model from ZTE that was just certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Carrying the model number Z2321U, the Wi-Fi Alliance lists the device as an LTE/CDMA Multi-Mode Digital Mobile Phone. More interesting …

Budget-friendly LG Zone 4 for Verizon has been certified in the US

Verizon plans to launch a sequel to LG’s entry-level Optimus-branded smartphones: Optimus Zone 2 and Optimus Zone 3. However, according to Evan Blass, the new handset will drop the “Optimus” moniker in favor of a shorter naming scheme – LG Zone 4.

We’ve learned about the LG Zone 4 two weeks ago, and the fact that it should be launched at Verizon very soon. Customers waiting for a budget-friendly Android smartphone will be happy to know that LG Zone 4 is very close to its debut.

The smartphone has been recently spotted at FCC (Federal Communications Commission), …

Alcatel 5 with dual selfie cameras and metal body gets certified ahead of early 2018 unveiling

TCL is expected to unleash a new wave of Alcatel smartphones early next year. Based on previous experiences, the Chinese company usually introduces new handsets in late February at MWC (Mobile World Congress), but there’s a chance that a couple of Alcatel smartphones will be announced in early January at CES (Consumers Electronics Show).

One of the smartphones that will certainly be part of TCL’s new lineup is the Alcatel 5. The smartphone has just been certified at FCC (Federal Communications Commission), which brings it one step closer to release.

The smartphone …

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ get certified by the FCC

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have just received their FCC certification. Hold your horses, though – this is by no means indicating that the two flagships are arriving earlier than usual; we still largely expect them to swing by a few days before MWC ’18 next year kicks off in late February.
The FCC regulation agency has approved devices with the codenames SM-G960F and SM-G965F, which coincide with the expected model aliases. The certification means that the two devices are now closer to being released in the US than ever before and is merely the …

Huawei Mate 10 and 10 Pro come with SuperCharge batteries that are safety certified

Huawei’s newest high-end smartphones, the Mate 10 and Mate
10 Pro, have a lot of common features – which is not surprising, since they’re
part of the same family of devices. One thing that users will likely appreciate
on the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro is battery life. Both handsets pack 4000 mAh
batteries that can last up to two days and feature SuperCharge – according to
Huawei, this fast-charge technology can provide “a whole day’s use with a
single 20-minute charge.”

Huawei is proud of its SuperCharge technology, announcing
that it’s the world’s first fast charge system to be safety …

Save hundreds by buying the certified pre-owned iPhone 7 from T-Mobile

If you want to replace your Apple iPhone 5 (which didn’t get the iOS 11 update) with a newer model, here is a suggestion. T-Mobile has the certified pre-owned 32GB iPhone 7 on sale for $366 or $15.25/month over 24 months. The 2016 model might not have the support for wireless charging that the newer units have, nor is it powered by the A11 Bionic chipset. Still, the A10 Fusion chipset remains a powerful smartphone driver.

As far as the phone being refurbished is concerned, T-Mobile has put the device through its tests which is why it is a “certified” pre-owned model. The refurbished unit …

Essential Phone gets certified, will now work on Verizon's network

While the only U.S. carrier selling (and leasing) the Essential Phone is Sprint, the carrier branded model and the unlocked version available from Essential, Amazon or Best Buy are now both certified for use with Verizon’s network. A text disseminated by Essential on Friday night, and one sent by Andy Rubin, both confirm that the Verizon certification is now complete for the handset that features a 5.7-inch edge-to-edge LCD display.

If you have a Verizon SIM card, all you need to do is insert it into the phone. It might take a reboot (according to Andy Rubin) before your Essential Phone …

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 gets certified, expect it to launch very soon

We reported a few months ago that the sequel to the entry-level rugged tablet by Samsung, the Galaxy Tab Active is in the works and that it might be coming soon. Well, it looks like the slate is now one more step closer to release, although we doubt Samsung will hold a launch event just for the Galaxy Tab Active 2.

The US regulatory commission (FCC) has just certified Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Active 2, which goes by model numbers SM-T390 (LTE) and SM-T395 (Wi-Fi only). For the time being, it’s the Wi-Fi only version that got approved by the Federal Communications Commission, but we’re confident …

All phones certified by Netflix for HDR and Dolby Vision video streaming

Netflix just updated its mobile HDR and Dolby Vision streaming list with the newly-announced Android phones capable of reproducing those titles in their due gorgeousness. So far, it has certified just the LG G6 as able to display its Dolby Vision footage as the creators intended, yet, given the standard’s requirements, it seems that both LG and Dolby might have cut a few corners to certify the G6 display as Dolby Vision compatible.
When it comes to the more popular HDR-10 format, though, Netflix just added two more phones to the LG and …
