LG launches V30 "Signature Edition" with ceramic back, Android Oreo, and 6GB RAM, but you can't have it!

LG is launching a new luxurious smartphone in South Korea. The new handset is called “LG Signature Edition” and is based on the high-end V30 model.
Many of the Signature Edition phone’s specs are identical to the normal version of the 6-inch phablet. However, there are some notable differences between the two. For starters, the glass back of the V30 is substituted with a zirconium ceramic plate on the posh variant. The premium material is known to be much more scratch-resistant than metal or glass, but it certainly isn’t immune to cracking. …

Black Ceramic version of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 goes on sale

The all ceramic version of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 won’t scratch as much as the standard model, which features an aluminum frame (and some ceramic as well). It also has just the right amount of heft to it. A version of the all ceramic Mi Mix 2 in white was released last month, and today the same model in black is being offered in China, priced at ¥4699. That is equivalent to $702 USD at current exchange rates.

While the original Mi Mix was more of a proof of concept, it did kick off the current so-called bezel-less phone era that has spawned handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S8, the Essential …

Apple Watch Series 3 models with no LTE won't come in ceramic or stainless steel variants

Save for the end-of-the-show “surprise” iPhone X reveal, Apple’s Tuesday event felt extremely rushed: the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus part was particularly bad about this, but other stuff like the Apple Watch Series 3 also wasn’t given nearly as much attention as it could have.

For example, Apple only mentioned that the new wearable will come in two variants, one with cellular and one without, and conveniently sidestepped the whole mess of editions (and Editions) — by our count, the Series 3 will be available in a whopping 31 different variants at launch, spread …

This Essential Phone scratch and bend test reveals the toughness of titanium and ceramic

Priced at $699, the Essential Phone is more than just another high-end handset – thanks to its design and the rather rare materials that it’s made of, including titanium and ceramic. As it turns out, these materials make the phone tougher than most of its competitors.

The scratch and bend test seen in the video below shows that the Essential Phone is seriously well built. The entire front of the device (camera included) is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 – this puts it on par with the likes of Apple iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8. In other words, the handset’s …

The Xiaomi Mi 6 Ceramic Edition is the top-dog version of the popular smartphone for those who desire the Chinese company’s technological and design best. Tricked out with a ceramic back, 18k gold camera rims, and a muscular spec sheet, the phone is going on its first sale in China May 23 at 10 AM local time. It took a while, due to material and chipset shortages.

We imagine the available stock will be depleted extremely quickly and many would-be buyers will have to wait for the second, or even third round, depending on Xiaomi’s market strategy. The …

Xiaomi Mi 6 suffering from ceramic and processor shortages

The Xiaomi Mi 6 has been a big success with sold out flash sales leaving buyers with no units to buy. Besides the heavy demand for the phone, it appears that Xiaomi is facing a shortage of certain parts for the handset such as the Qualcomm 835 chipset, and the ceramic body that is used on a special edition of the device. As far as the chipset is concerned, Samsung reportedly has first claim on any Snapdragon 835 chipsets that roll out of the foundry.

The ceramic edition of the Xiaomi Mi 6 replaces the phone’s glass shell with one made of a ceramic material. This version of the phone comes …
