This Russian's collusion with an iPhone 7 proves that the best camera is the one you carry

The iPhone 7 is the gift that keeps on giving for Apple. Discounted down to $499 after the iPhone 8 launch, the previous iPhone model offers plenty of bang for the buck, such as a metal body, and a camera that is pretty great for its now upper midrange class. It should come to no surprise then, that the iPhone 7 has kept unusually high share in new iPhone sales, for the sake of the iPhone 8, and even iPhone X shipments.

One needs to look no further than the amazing “shot on iPhone” account of one Russian photog to understand why the 7 sells as much as …

Despite Huawei's claim, teardown of P20 Pro seems to indicate that all three cameras carry OIS

The Huawei P20 Pro has a unique triple camera setup on back. There is the main 40MP RGB camera, a 20MP monochrome camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. After the phone was dissected by iFixit, the latter states that all three snappers appear to feature optical image stabilization (OIS). For those who are not familiar with this, OIS prevents your videos from looking like you overdosed on coffee, even if you went on a caffeine bender before recording.

Officially, Huawei will only admit that the 8MP camera is equipped with OIS. The manufacturer says that the other two sensors rely on the AI based …

T-Mobile says it will carry the new 9.7-inch Apple iPad (2018) with Pencil support

As we told you earlier today, Apple has taken the wraps of its newly updated 9.7-inch iPad. The screen features a resolution of 1536 x 2048, and under the hood is 2016’s A10 Fusion chipset, which is a bump up from the A9 SoC powering last year’s 9.7-inch model. The biggest change is that the new iPad carries support for the Apple Pencil. It also features an 8MP rear-facing camera and a front-facing FaceTime HD camera. The slate includes Touch ID (you can stare at the tablet for hours, but it won’t unlock) and Apple says it will run for 10 hours on a single charge.

This afternoon, a tweet …

Report: Apple iPhone Xs Plus to carry 6.5-inch OLED panel with resolution of 1242 x 2688

Earlier this year, KGI Securities Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told us to expect three new iPhone models for 2018. The Apple iPhone Xs will be a sequel to the current iPhone X, featuring a 5.8-inch OLED panel. The Apple iPhone Xs Plus will come with a 6.5-inch OLED display, and the Apple iPhone 9 will be equipped with a 6.1-inch LCD screen. Unlike the other two models, the iPhone 9 will sport just one camera on back and will not support 3D Touch; all three models should come with the TrueDepth Camera and Face ID.

This morning, Bloomberg passed along some leaked information related to the 2018 …

Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus listed on FCC site; both models will carry a 4000mAh battery

Just yesterday we showed you a 3D render of what was alleged to be the Moto E5. Sporting a real-facing fingerprint scanner (which includes the company’s iconic batwings logo), the handset is expected to feature a 5-inch display and a MediaTek SoC under the hood. Today, the Moto E5 resurfaces along with the Moto E5 Plus as both phones are said to be listed on the FCC website.

The model numbers posted on the FCC page are XT1922-4 and XT1922-5. While the FCC documentation doesn’t give away much information about specs, it does show that both phones will be powered by a 4000mAh battery. Last …

Xiaomi Mi Max 3 rumored to carry a 7-inch display and a 5500mAh battery

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was released this past June, carrying a 6.4-inch display with a 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution, powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC. That is a pretty big screen for a handset, but not close to the size of the display that is rumored to be featured on the Mi Max 3. If the latest rumor is right, the Mi Max 3 will be encroaching on tablet territory with a screen size of 7-inches. The aspect ratio will weigh in at 18:9, and the panel will sport thinner bezels than those seen on the first two models in this series. The early betting line has the 1080 x 2160 FHD+ resolution the favorite …

More evidence suggests Verizon will carry the HP Elite x3 flagship

There’s much talk surrounding HP’s old Windows Phone flagship, the Elite x3, which is supposed to be launched in the United States at Verizon. Apparently, discussions between the major carrier and HP began early this summer, but nothing concrete was decided.

Last month, Verizon certified the HP Elite x3, but the smartphone is still MIA. Today, Microsoft revealed all the smartphones that are eligible for its new Windows 10 Fall Creators update and the HP Elite x3 (Verizon model) is listed among them.

That’s another reason that we believe Verizon will eventually …

Future S Pen might capture digital signatures and carry a microphone

Back in 2014, a patent application filed by Samsung with the USPTO showed a stylus with a built-in microphone and a speaker. Phone calls could be made through the device. According to the filing, the stylus “functions as a substitute for a wireless headset” allowing the user “to mount the pen to a shirt pocket or the like, and communicate in a phone call using the portable terminal as a base.”

Today, some three years later, a report out of Korea says that Samsung’s S Pen development chief Chae Won-sik has admitted that studies are underway to determine the best way to add a microphone to …

Affordable Coolpad Defiant debuting at T-Mobile on June 16, MetroPCS will carry it too

Rumors about a very cheap Nougat-powered phone that will hit the shelves at T-Mobile emerged back in April. A new affordable smartphone called Coolpad Defiant was tipped to arrive at the Uncarrier at some point, but we haven’t heard anything about it until today.

T-Mobile and Coolpad have just confirmed that the long-rumored Defiant will be launched in the United States on June 16. Moreover, MetroPCS will offer the smartphone this summer as well, but no info on the exact release date has been given yet.

Although it’s capable of running Android 7.0 Nougat …

T-Mobile to carry the Motorola Moto Z2 Force

Yesterday, when we showed you renders of the upcoming Motorola Moto Z2 Force, we told you that the handset might not be a Verizon exclusive. Now, Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) is confirming that the Z2 Force will be released on at least two major US carriers. More exactly, besides landing at Verizon, the Moto Z2 Force will also be launched by T-Mobile.

For now, details on timing and pricing are missing, but we assume we’ll hear more about this in the coming months. What’s probably a safe bet is that the new smartphone will be called Moto Z2 Force Droid Edition on Verizon, …
