Some Surface Pro 4 owners put their slate in the ice box to stop screen from flickering

A small number of Surface Pro 4 owners are having trouble with flickering screens. Given the name Flickergate by some, the problem has been discussed on Microsoft’s support forums by those unfortunate enough to find themselves with one of the tablets exhibiting this behavior. The big problem for these owners (said to include at least 1,600 people), is that their expensive slate is no longer covered by the warranty.

Microsoft says that it is aware of the issue, but so far the gang in Redmond is only closely monitoring the situation. Since the flickering usually takes place when the …

We’ve heard reports and seen renders of dual cameras, a proper fingerprint scanner placement, AKG earphones and so much more.

But today, we got a real treat! Well, an alleged “real treat”… but we are still having a hard time holding our excitement.

A Samsung Galaxy S9 retail box was allegedly shot in the …

What backlash? 'The Last Jedi' just crossed $1 billion at the box office

TwitterFacebook

While the rest of the world was off ringing in the New Year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was busy crossing an important landmark.

Actually, make that two.

Less than three weeks after its debut, The Last Jedi has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. As of writing, its total is up to $1.04 billion, according to Box Office Mojo

Only Beauty and the Beast and The Fate of the Furious did better globally in 2017, with $1.26 and $1.24 billion, respectively. (Despicable Me 3 lags just behind with $1.03 billion.) Read more…

'The Last Jedi' rules the 2017 box office with a chart-topping $220 million opening

TwitterFacebook

In news that should surprise precisely no one, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is poised to become the proud owner of 2017’s biggest opening weekend at the U.S. box office.

Take a moment to process this not-at-all-unexpected development. I’ll wait.

Sunday estimates point to a massive $220 million weekend, giving The Last Jedi‘s first days in theaters a commanding lead over the previous 2017 chart-topper among domestic releases: Beauty and the Beast

The live-action remake nabbed $174.8 million in its first three days. Even if the current Last Jedi estimates fall short, there’s virtually no chance of it finishing the weekend with less than what Beauty pulled in. Read more…

Sprint's Magic Box adds network capacity and increases data speeds from the sky

Looking for a way to expand the reach of its 2.5GHz spectrum for up to 10 square miles (at least to start), Sprint has started testing its Magic Box as an aerial small cell solution. The Sprint Magic Box is a signal booster than when on the ground, increases download and upload speeds by as much as 200% within a range of 30,000 square feet. In the air, the Magic Box can connect on the ground with a Sprint cell site, COW (Cell on Wheels) or SatCOLT (Satellite Cell Site on Light Truck) to provide service to customers. Using a drone, the Magic Box is lifted as much as 400 feet in the air.

Sony Xperia XZ1 launches in the US as the first phone to run Android Oreo out of the box

Announced a few weeks back alongside the Xperia XZ1 Compact
and Xperia XA1 Plus, the Sony Xperia XZ1 is now available to buy in the US,
becoming the first among the three new Xperias to be released stateside.

Priced at $699.99 unlocked, the Xperia XZ1 succeeds the
Xperia XZs and Xperia XZ, offering a largely similar design, but improved
features. Perhaps the most noteworthy thing about the XZ1 is that it’s the world’s
first commercially available smartphone to run Android 8 Oreo out of the box. This means it’s got all
the latest software enhancements from Google, including adaptive …

'Mother!' takes a 'Black Swan' dive at the box office, but that might be good news

TwitterFacebook

Black Swan didn’t open big either, for what it’s worth.

Mother!, the latest mindf*ck from writer/director Darren Aronofsky with stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, is off to a seemingly slow start at the box office. Despite opening this weekend in more than 2,300 theaters, the current three-day domestic estimate is $7.5 million.

That’s less than one-third of the movie’s reported $30 million budget. It’s still enough to land Mother! in the #3 slot on the weekend box office charts, behind fellow newcomer American Assassin ($14.8 million) and record-breaking horror champ It ($60 million). Read more…
