OnePlus 6 to get on board the Super Slow Motion train

Not to be outdone by Sony, Samsung and Huawei, the upcoming OnePlus 6 will seemingly sport a Super Slow Motion feature, as tipped by its unveiling event invitation you see on the right.

Oh, the times we live in, when phones have dedicated camera sensor memory fast enough to store the whopping amounts of frames needed for a few seconds of amazing slow-motion video effects to spice up your footage.
The Galaxy S9, for instance, does 960fps slow-mo at 720p, while the Xperia XZ2 does the same at 1080p, which is much more usable as an end result. Sony, …

Qualcomm removes ex-chairman Paul Jacobs from board as he pursues bid for chipmaker

The never-ending saga of Broadcom trying to take over Qualcomm may have just made its first victim. Paul Jacobs, son of Qualcomm’s co-founder Irwin Jacobs, was replaced by Jeffrey Henderson in the chairman position last week.

The decision was made after several investors complained about Jacobs’ pay and said that since he has two separate roles at Qualcomm – executive chairman and chief executive, it might be confusing for employees and directors to tell who is in charge.

However, Jacobs remained a member of Qualcomm’s board until recently when he expressed his wish to pursue a bid …

Did the Samsung Galaxy S9 go through a benchmark test with the SD-845, 6GB of RAM and Oreo on board?

A phone with its model number hidden was recently put through the Geekbench benchmark test. With a Snapdragon 845 mobile platform under the hood, 6GB of RAM inside, and Android 8.0 pre-installed, this could be the Samsung Galaxy S9. We emphasized the word “could” because these specs are going to be a common sight as 2018 gets going. However, Samsung is getting first crack at the Snapdragon 845 SoC, which raises the odds a bit that this is indeed Sammy’s 2018 flagship phone.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on February 25th during the next Samsung Unpacked event in Barcelona. …

Copyright Royalty Board gives song writers a 44% hike over 5 years from music streamers

The U.S. Copyright Royalty Board has put some more money into songwriters’ pockets. The board has just awarded tunesmiths a 43.8% hike in royalties from streaming music services over the next five years (from 2018 to 2022). The annual increases will range from 10.5% to 15.1%. The royalties hike was the result of a trial that took place between March and June of last year. That legal battle pitted the National Music Publishers’ Association and the Nashville Songwriters’ Association International against music streamers Google, Amazon, Apple, Spotify and Pandora.

Even though this is the largest …

Report: Broadcom to release its candidates for Qualcomm's board tomorrow as deal turns hostile

Broadcom’s $103 billion bid for fellow chipmaker Qualcomm is not only unsolicited, it is now hostile. With the latter turning down what would be the largest acquisition in the history of the tech sector, Broadcom plans on trying an end around to get the deal done. According to people close to the transaction, this involves starting a proxy fight for control of Qualcomm’s board. These sources say that this will all start Monday when Broadcom announces its slate of candidates to run against Qualcomm’s current board.

Qualcomm shareholders will get to vote between the company’s present Board …

Soft bricks: Some Pixel 2 XL units reportedly ship without operating system on board

According to some amusing and rather odd reports, some users have received Pixel 2 XL units that came with no… Android operating system on board. Yes, it boggles the mind, but a redditor going by the name of MAKES_PEOPLE_MAD had their brand new Pixel 2 XL device greet them with a “Can’t find valid operating system. The device will not start.” message right out of the box, which is more than enough to ruin anyone’s day.

Accompanying the message is a security link to Google’s support page, which indicates that “The operating system on your device has been changed or …
