Unlocked BlackBerry KEYone gets the March security update

Even though fewer than 1 million BlackBerry KEYone units were delivered last year, the phone is still considered a success by TCL because it is available in 50 countries and from more than 110 carriers world-wide. The handset comes with one of the best physical keyboards ever to adorn a BlackBerry phone, and includes a fingerprint sensor embedded in the space bar. John Chen discusses his contract extension and his plans for BlackBerry

Yesterday, we told you all about BlackBerry CEO John Chen’s five-year contract extension. Now, the executive will be hanging around until 2023 unless another extension is signed before then. At the same time, his benefits package could exceed $300 million depending on how well the stock does over the five year period of the new contract. Should BlackBerry hit $30 (based on a ten-day moving average), the executive’s complete stock package immediately vests. Considering that the stock closed today at $12.95, Chen has a long way to go for that to happen.

Phantom Secure is a company known for selling customized BlackBerry models. To make the ‘Berry even more secure than it is out of the box, the camera and microphones are removed and secure messages are sent only through private networks. BlackBerry sues Facebook for patent infringement

BlackBerry today, filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles accusing social media giant Facebook and its WhatsApp and Instagram apps, of patent infringement. According to the suit, the trio stole features and technology from BlackBerry Messenger. The suit comes after both companies spent “several years in dialogue,” according to a BlackBerry spokeswoman by the name of Sarah McKinney.

No fooling: BlackBerry World will host free apps only starting on April 1st

If you still use a BlackBerry that runs on the BlackBerry 10 operating system, you might want to circle April 1st on your calendar. Starting on that day, only free apps will be hosted on BlackBerry World. The company has sent out an email to developers explaining that BlackBerry World is making this transition and will disable all “purchasing mechanisms” starting on April Fool’s Day. In the email, BlackBerry tells developers to go to the Vendor Portal to change their paid apps to free apps. Any paid apps still on the site by March 31st will be removed.
