AT&T begins testing intriguing new way of bringing high-speed internet to US and global users

AT&T has announced the launch of two field trials of its AirGig technology. AirGig is a system that can deliver low-cost, multi-gigabit wireless internet speeds using power lines.

The telecom says that this new approach is much faster and economical than constructing new cell towers or burying fiber-optic cables in the ground, as AirGig works with low-cost plastic antennas and devices that can be installed on a power line by trained operators in just a few minutes.

Judge Lucy Koh says she's tired of presiding over Apple v. Samsung; new trial begins on May 14th

Just the other day, we told you that after an appeals court ruling, the patent infringement trial between Apple and Samsung was being remanded to the Northern District of California. At issue is the amount of monetary damages that Samsung has to pay Apple. Originally coming in at over $1 billion, Samsung was able to get the award reduced to a more manageable $339 million. Samsung paid Apple that amount last year. But since the Supreme Court ruled that damages should be awarded based on the particular part infringed on, not on total sales of a handset, Samsung wanted a “do-over” to cut the damages …

T-Mobile begins Android 7.1.1 Nougat rollout for the original Samsung Galaxy J7

The original Galaxy J7 is the latest Samsung smartphone to receive the long-awaited Android Nougat update at T-Mobile. The US carrier has already published the changelog of the update, but there isn’t anything interesting mentioned there.

Although T-Mobile claims the Galaxy J7 (SM-J700T) is getting Android 7.0 Nougat update, the smartphone is being upgraded directly to Android 7.1.1. A security patch is included in the update as well, but we can’t say for sure whether it’s the one released by Google in September or October.

We can definitely say that you …

Unsurprisingly, the handset in question is the U11, HTC’s current flagship phone, launched in May with Android Nougat on board.

After being released for the U11, Android Oreo will be made available for the HTC U Ultra and HTC 10 (probably starting early 2018). Other HTC devices might also be updated to Android 8.0 at some point. However, for …

There is speculation that the tenth anniversary iOS handset, a premium model, is already undergoing mass production inside certain Foxconn facilities.

For the quarter ended in June, Foxconn reported net of $589 million USD. That is a 25% shortfall …

A new Google Now design begins to roll out to some Pixel phones

Android has been widely praised and preferred for the customizability of its looks. Nonetheless, there has been a fair share of smartphone users, especially those on the ‘other side’ (e.g. iOS users), who have argued that iOS still provides better and smoother visual experiences, albeit with limited options for custom-tweaking the UI. In this spirit, Google has seemingly kicked off an update to Google Now’s looks that certainly adds to the feature’s visual appeal and makes the screen look more like an extension to your home screen, rather than a whole new app window.

The update has started …
