Audio Technica's new Bluetooth headphones look great for sports

Audio Technica has a brand new pair of sporty Bluetooth neck-bud headphones – the ATH-SPORT70BT model – and we got to spend some time with them at CES 2018, so here are our first impressions.

The Audio-Technica ATH-SPORT70BT headphones are super lightweight and the wire can be adjustable so nothing is flapping. This means that the actual experience of wearing them is very comfortable and fitting for an intense workout. On the flipside of things, they are pretty conservative in terms of looks and styling, so they might not be everyone’s cup of tea if you value …

Google looking into Pixel 2 XL bug that affects volume of audio clips sent via a messaging app

The latest problem affecting the Google Pixel 2 XL is one that Google is already looking into. Complaints have been posted on the Pixel User Community of the Google Product Forum. According to these posts, voice clips sent through a messaging app by a Pixel 2 XL carrying this bug, are arriving on a recipient’s phone with very low volume. This is occurring with messages sent through WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, Google Allo, Telegram and other platforms.
The low volume occurs regardless whether the recipient is wearing earphones or using the receiving phone’s speakers. …

Alleged Galaxy S9 clear case restates the fingerprint scanner move and the audio jack

A newly leaked clear case, allegedly destined for the Galaxy S9, is making the rounds, and it looks to be fitting like a glove around the CAD-based renders that appeared yesterday. Unfortunately, it also means that Samsung may indeed reserve the dual camera set as a Galaxy S9+ exclusive, as this case here shows too short of an opening on the back for it to house two lenses and a finger scanner. Speaking of, the case hints at a different, under-camera fingerprint reader placement, compared to the S8, just as most leaks so far have iterated, which is a welcome change.

Google Pixel 2/2 XL audio distortion issue in video recordings fixed in Android 8.1 DP2

Google’s latest Pixel phones are some of the hottest Android flagships in town, but their commercial release has been marred by quite a few issues. One problem that still irritates some owners is a distortion of audio in video playback. Google acknowledged the problem back in late October and promised to resolve it with a software fix.

Now, we’re happy to say that videos will sound much better when Android Oreo 8.1 becomes official. The update is still in beta, but there’s no sign of the bug in the Developer Preview 2 test release of the software. Fortunately, we …

Skype Lite is causing a Bluetooth bug that hogs audio functions on phones running Oreo

So let’s say that you are using Bluetooth on your Android Oreo powered handset so that you can play music over your car’s audio system. As soon as you connect to the car’s speaker, your phone appears to be connecting to a phantom incoming phone call. There is nothing on the dialer suggesting that a call was received.  Since the car’s audio system thinks that it has to turn over control of the speaker to a phone call, albeit one that doesn’t exist, the music you wanted to listen to is replaced by silence.

Last month, a thread was started on the Google Issue Tracker site and as it turns …

Teardown of Google Play Store v8.4 hints at audio books, auto-updating system apps, more

A recent teardown of the latest Google Play Store APK (version 8.4) is hinting that audiobooks could be coming soon to Google’s large software repository, which always has tons of apps, movies, music tracks, and e-books. That’s yet another step in Google’s quest of making the Play Store a one-stop shop for all the kinds of media content you might possibly think of.
The unearthed code is rather sparse and gives no hints as to what app will be used to blay the audio books, but we bet that either Play Music or Play Books will have the honors. As usual with …

More problems: Pixel 2 XL owners report terribly tinny, distorted audio recording in videos

The Pixel 2 XL has been off to quite a bumpy start. From clicking sounds to faulty displays, the hits appear to keep on coming. Fortunately, the latest reported issue — distorted audio quality in video recording — should be easily fixed with a software update.

First reported among owners on Google’s Pixel Community website, the audio quality in video recordings is described as “tinny”, “overly compressed”, and “unusable” among many other descriptors from a growing number of users. Some describe it as a sometimes intermittent issue, leading many …

Google Duo 21 hints that users will be able to send audio and video messages to contacts

According to a report published today, video conferencing app Duo could soon be used to send and receive audio and video messages to and from contacts. Breaking down Duo 21 reveals button-like icons that users would press to start and stop the recording of a video message. Also discovered in this teardown are several strings that are related to the message notification that a recipient would receive from Duo. The notification reveals if the message is via voice or video, and who it is from. Of course, a Watch or Listen button would be included depending on the form the message takes.

Speaking …
