Some of Sony's older wireless headphones, earbuds will receive Google Assistant support via OTA

Sony revealed a bunch of new wireless Bluetooth earbuds at CES 2018 just the other day, with a couple of these coming with built-in support for the Google Assistant, namely the WF-SP700N and WI-SP600N earbuds. Well, at least the support is there, but the actual Google Assistant will arrive at a later date with an software update.

That same software update will obviously transcend to some older Sony headphones and earbuds, as the company is on track to bring this trendy new Google Assistant functionality to its last-year tongue-twisters, the WF-1000X, WI-1000X, WH-1000XM2, WH-CH700N, …

This new Google website shows all possible Google Assistant commands and interactions

Google is really betting high on its Google Assistant, which is now available on almost any contemporary Android device, a ton of existing and new smart speakers, and soon coming to an automobile near you. Google representatives also made a lot of cameos at various manufacturers’ keynote events at the currently-ongoing CES 2018 show.
One can palpably feel it in the air that Google really really wants the Assistant to take off and become more mainstream.
But useful it may be, the majority of useful features of the smart bot are still …

2018 is shaping up as a strong year for smart home speakers and AI-driven experiences as a whole. Alongside the big announcement that companies such as LG, Lenovo, JBL, and Sony, among others, will start producing Google Assistant-powered smart speakers with touchscreens, Google also revealed that its AI assistant will finally be making its way to Android Auto, starting this week in the U.S.

But wait, you can already use voice commands with Android Auto, how is Google Assistant any different? Well, that’s a good question, and the answer is …

Facebook is out of the smart assistant game… for now: Its M chatbot to retire soon

Oh, M, we hardly knew ye!

Facebook has decided to kill of its short-lived smart chatbot, dubbed M, which was available inside the ultra popular Messenger service but never actually got out of beta. It used artificial intelligence to come up with relevant answers to users’ queries which have subsequently been checked by real humans for relevancy and comprehensiveness; apparently, people did that 24/7 – how’s that for a resume?
However, it would seem that Facebook was unimpressed with the direction M was going, so it will sing its swan song this January …

Wrapping up 2017 for tech's surprise personality of the year, virtual assistant Alexa

What a year 2017 was for Amazon’s virtual personal assistant Alexa. The success of Alexa this year went hand-in-hand with the success of the smart speaker category in general, and the Amazon Echo line specifically. In addition, Alexa was also spotted on other non Amazon products. For example, owners of the HTC U11 flagship phone can choose between Alexa and Google Assistant when they have a task that requires the use of a personal assistant. Alexa can also be found on the Huawei Mate 9 and on any Moto Z phone that is sporting the Moto Mod Speaker with Amazon Alexa accessory.

This year, Alexa …

Wish your Google Assistant "Merry Christmas," and check out the Easter eggs

Google’s keeping up with the holiday spirit, introducing Easter on… Christmas, as you only need to wish the Assistant on your phone, or your Home smart speaker with Google’s chatbot buddy on board “Merry Christmas,” and those eggs will start spilling out.

We won’t spoil the fun entirely, but will just say that it’s not the usual Santa tracker that gets spat out only, but an actual Play Holiday Mad Libs game for kids and adults alike.
There are also heartwarming (and heartbreaking) Christmas stories, plus a few other options …

Google Assistant and Siri wins and fails: Smart assistants are the comic relief we need in the AI era

Voice assistants are now virtually present on almost any device you could pick. Heck, some even have two or more voice assistants on deck though that provides little to no additional benefit.
Now that the Google Assistant has broadened its reach to any contemporary Android device and Siri has been a staple of all iPhones for more than half a decade, it’s only natural that they have become an almost natural part of our everyday lives. We might not use them on the regular but communication with your virtual butler is getting more and more natural. Given …

"Hey Google" hotword is rolling out to Google Assistant on phones

Google Assistant on phones is currently activated by the “Ok Google” phrase, but owners of the Google Home have been able to engage the Assistant by also saying “Hey Google,” which apparently many people prefer for some reason or another. Well, we’re glad to report that the new hotword is now seeing a wider rollout, after it was made accessible to a limited number of users back in October.
A growing number of users are receiving a prompt to setup voice recognition within Google Assistant again with the new command. All you need to do is repeat the phrase a couple of …

Google Assistant is coming to certain tablets, and smartphones running Android Lollipop

Google announced today that Google Assistant will now be found on Android tablets for the first time. Google Assistant may soon come to feature phones

Android Go is not the only important thing announced by Google earlier today. An important improvement with the potential to impact a much larger pool of mobile phone users only briefly mentioned by Google.

Apparently, Google Assistant will be customized to work on feature phones. To show it’s serious about it, Google announced that it’s bringing its Assistant to a feature phone that’s only available in India, the Reliance JioPhone. The handset is powered by a custom operating system called KaiOS, based on Firefox OS, and has its own voice assistant – HelloJio. …
