Apple iPhone with damaged battery and screen catches fire inside repair shop (VIDEO)

An unsettling video obtained by ABC’s Las Vegas affiliate KTNV shows an unknown Apple iPhone model suddenly bursting into flames inside a repair shop in Las Vegas. The unit in the video was in the shop to replace a bloated battery and a cracked screen that broke when the battery expanded. Paul Tartaglio who runs Gadget Repair in Las Vegas, which was not the shop in the video, says that the high triple digit temperatures in Vegas cause batteries to warp.

Tartaglio has two helpful tips for those who live in sweltering hot areas of the country. He says that phones should be kept out …

Report: Apple is developing ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner

According to a new report out of Korea published today, Apple is said to be working on an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. Currently, optical technology is used by Chinese smartphone manufacturers for such a feature. This uses reflected light to read the shape of a fingerprint and match it to the user’s fingerprint. The ultrasonic version, which is being developed by Apple, Samsung and Qualcomm, catches small details of the skin. While yields are lower and the parts more expensive, ultrasonic biometric readers are said to be much more accurate than the optical variety. There also is a …

Based on several incidents that we have told you about, it would seem that there is a valid reason to call the Apple Watch a life saver. It was April 1st, and D’Aquino spotted an alarm on his timepiece telling him that his heart rate was too high. Report: Apple iPhone SE (2018) to be unveiled in September

Yesterday, we showed you the latest renders for the Apple iPhone SE (2018) that were created by accessories maker Olixar and posted on Mobile Fun’s website. Today, some more news about the sequel to Apple’s low-priced phone (comparatively speaking) has surfaced. According to several accessory makers who had been showing their wares at Japan IT Week Spring Mobile Solutions Expo, Apple has yet to start up production of the iPhone SE (2018). And that would indicate that a second quarter launch of the phone is out of the question.

In fact, the report says that Apple hasn’t decided yet whether …

YouTube now supports HDR video on the Apple iPhone X

Apple iPhone X users should be seeing an improvement in the quality of certain YouTube videos that they view on their phone. That’s because YouTube has just added HDR video support for Apple’s tenth anniversary model. With HDR, YouTube videos have greater contrast and offer more colors than standard digital video. Besides seeing a large improvement in how a video appears on the phone’s screen, YouTube will also display the letters ‘HDR’ in the quality of the video (for example, ‘1080p60 HDR’). You can find that information by tapping on a video, tapping the three dots in the right hand corner, …

According to some recent images posted by accessories manufacturer Olixar and retailer Mobile Fun, the Apple iPhone SE (2018) could feature an edge-to-edge display, a notch, and Face ID. Considering that the first generation version of the phone (released in 2016) had a retro look dating back to the Apple iPhone 5s, this obviously is a big deal. The big question is whether or not the next iPhone SE will truly look like these renders and photographs.

While the renders we showed you were from Olixar’s screen protector, the company’s first case for the iPhone SE (2018) has now been posted on …

Memo from Apple: $29 Battery replacements available for all included iPhone models with no delay?

Late last year, Apple apologized for slipping in software during an iOS update allowing it to throttle the CPU on older iPhone models with weak batteries. Those units would reboot when faced with a complex task due to the lack of battery strength. Apple decided that one way it could make up with its customers would be to offer battery replacements for these devices at a price of $29, a 63% discount from the usual $79 that Apple charges. Models from the Apple iPhone 6 and later qualify for the $29 price, which is good through the entire year.

The discount attracted a large number of iPhone …
