OnePlus announces Individual Application Update program for speedier OxygenOS updates

Over the past couple of months, OnePlus released some of the apps that come pre-installed on its smartphones in the Google Play Store. Apps like Weather and Gallery, as well as the company’s Android launcher have been launched on Google Play and made available to everyone owning a OnePlus smartphone.

The only reason that OnePlus did that is to be able to provide its customers with frequent updates on these apps. More recently, the Chinese company announced that in order to speed up OxygenOS updates, the customized OS that runs on OnePlus smartphones, and to gather …

Samsung officially announces the Gear Fit 2 Pro with 5 ATM water resistance and improved strap design

Just last week, at least two local Samsung websites published the official product pages for one of the company’s latest wearables, the Gear Fit 2 Pro. And while we were sitting there wondering whether this was a weird but deliberate decision on Samsung’s part, all the info was pulled, proving it was actually just mistake.

But today at the Korean giant’s pre-IFA press conference, the Gear Fit 2 Pro was finally made official, this time for real. And just as we’ve already seen, it’s little more than an update on an already existing (but still quite good) …

MediaTek announces new Helio P23 and P30 chipsets with dual VoLTE support

As expected, chipset maker MediaTek unveiled its new lineup of SoCs, which will be available starting Q4 2017: Helio P23 and Helio P30. Although both will be certified for global use, the Helio P30 SoC will be limited to China initially.

Both SoCs feature octa-core Cortex-A53 processor architecture, which might seem a bit obsolete even for mid-range chipsets. Even though they are iterations of the Helio P20 and P25 CPUs, the upgrade consists of new features and better IP blocks rather than just small speed bumps.

For example, both Helio P23 and P30 octa-core …

Facebook announces app redesign that will make your profile picture circular

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: a major social media announces a redesign of its mobile app that makes profile photos circular. Back in March, it was Twitter, but now (unsurprisingly, given the company’s habit of copying ideas from competitors), Facebook has also followed suit. Corners are so 2016, you guys.

But making profile pictures circular (and a bit smaller) isn’t the only visual tweak the company is introducing: alongside it, there’s an overall shift towards wireframe iconography throughout the app’s interface, as well as a change …

The new title was announced during the online broadcast of The International, the $23 million Dota 2 tournament going on right …

LG officially announces f/1.6 aperture for V30 camera

The upcoming LG V30 will feature a dual main camera with the widest aperture ever found on a phone, as officially announced by LG earlier tonight. Its main camera at the back will boast an f/1.6 aperture allowing 25% more light to reach the camera sensor than an f/1.8 smartphone lens, such as the one on the LG G6 flagship or on last year’s LG V20. The expected result – clearer images, even in low light.

In addition to that, the LG V30 will use glass instead of plastic for its camera lens. Thanks to the material’s properties, the so-called Crystal Clear Lens will …
