Alcatel Idol 5 & UNI360 VR hands-on

We checked out the Alcatel Idol 5 not too long ago in Berlin for IFA 2017, but the one we’re talking about here is for the US market. Specifically, it’s a Cricket Wireless exclusive and will be available starting on October, alongside with a new VR headset dubbed the UNI360 VR Goggles. For those looking to experience mobile VR on the cheap, this might be a solution that’s perfect for you.

Interestingly enough, while this version of the Idol 5 looks very much like the European model we checked out, one that looks and feels premium for its price point thanks …

Alcatel Idol 5 coming to Cricket Wireless on October 27

Quietly introduced earlier this month at IFA 2017 trade fair, the Alcatel Idol 5 will make its debut in the United States in late October. The smartphone will be exclusively carried in the country by Cricket Wireless.

The Idol 5 promises premium features at a fraction of the price of today’s major brand smartphones. But how much exactly Alcatel’s handset really costs? According to Cricket, the Idol 5 will be available for purchase for just $199 beginning October 27.

Now let’s see what are those “premium features” that Alcatel says the Idol 5 has to offer …

Alcatel Cameo X is a mid-range smartphone for AT&T

Alcatel is about to unleash yet another Android smartphone in the United States, the Cameo X. Although it looks like a mid-range device, the fact that it will be picked up by a major carrier will most likely boost its sales.

The unannounced Alcatel Cameo X will soon make its debut at AT&T, but aside from a press render of the smartphone, we don’t have any info on price and availability. In fact, there aren’t any details about Cameo X’s specs, so your guess is as good as ours.

Since this is a mid-range Android smartphone it’s likely to come with a 5-inch …

Alcatel A7 and A7 XL hands on

Not to be outdone by all the recent releases, Alcatel has
unleashed two of its own lower-mid-range contenders – the A7 and A7 XL. We take a first look at these devices to see if they pack enough value and features to create some buzz in this already crowded price point.

Design and Display

The XL is the better looking, metal bodied, and obviously
larger of the two. Packing a 6-inch, 1080p IPS display, the A7 XL’s metal
backing gives a more premium feel than the textured plastic of the A7, which
has a slightly smaller 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display. They’re both thicker …

Alcatel A7

The Alcatel A7 comes with a 1.5 GHz octa-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage (expandable via microSD card slot), 5.5-inch 1080p screen, 16-megapixel main camera and a 8-megapixel selfie shooter.

Alcatel IDOL 5

The IDOL 5 is a mid-range smartphone that runs Android 7.0 Nougat. The phone is equipped with a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, 3GB RAM and 16GB internal memory, which can be further expanded via microSD card. Alcatel IDOL 5 sports a 5.2-inch IPS display with full HD (1080p) resolution and packs a decent 2,800 mAh battery. A 13(interpolated to 16)-megapixel camera is positioned on the back side, alongside a fingerprint sensor. There’s also a secondary 5(interpolated to 8)-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls.

Alcatel Idol 5 hands-on

Usually, the bigger and better variant of a phone is announced during or a little bit after the standard one. For the case of the Alcatel Idol 5, however, its announcement comes months after the release of the Idol 5s. It’s a strange approach needless to say, but that’s exactly the case here.
Looking at the Idol 5 and 5s side-by-side, there’s no surprise that two like very similar to one another. However, there are some minute differences to tell the two apart. On the surface, it shares the same 2.5D curved glass and metal construction, giving it a premium …

An improved version of the Alcatel U5 goes official, this time featuring HD display

Unsurprisingly, Alcatel is back with yet another budget-friendly Android smartphone. Despite the fact that the new Alcatel U5 HD has pretty low-end specs, this an enhanced version of another smartphone that was unveiled early this year at MWC.

Much of the specs inside are similar, so expect the same MediaTek MT6737 processor, coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable storage (up to 32GB). However, there are some improvements when it comes to camera and display.

The Alcatel U5 HD sports a 5-inch display with HD (720p) resolution, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, …
