Motorola reversal: Moto G4 Plus to get updated to Android 8.0

Owners of the Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus and Moto G4 Play couldn’t believe their eyes last week when they went through the list of handsets that Motorola will update to Android 8.0. Despite being less than 18-months old, the three handsets were not scheduled to receive an update to the new Android build. And to make matters worse, a promotional listing for the Moto G4 Plus was edited to remove a previous comment about the model receiving Android O. Similar revisions were made to the Moto G4’s listing on Amazon India.

Today, a statement made by Motorola revealed that the comments made in the Moto …

Honor 6X and Honor 8 Pro will receive the highly-anticipated Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of the year. The former might get the update in early 2018, but that shouldn’t bother anyone who purchased the smartphone.

The Mate 10 could be Huawei's first smartphone to ship with Android 8.0 Oreo

Now that Google released Android 8.0 Oreo, handset makers can start updating a big chunk of their smartphones to the new version of the OS. Unfortunately, it might take at least a few months until a company will start the Android 8.0 Oreo roll-out, so chances are that a new device might ship with the new OS before an older one could be updated.

Although Google is expected to announce its new Pixel smartphones on October 5, these devices might not hit the shelves right away. On the other hand, the Mate 10 could be Huawei’s first smartphone to ship with Android 8.0 Oreo on board.

XDA found some code on the Android Developers website that reveals a new feature that will apparently be available with Android 8.0 (Oreo). If developers choose, they can arrange to have Google Assistant open inside their apps. This way, users won’t have to leave an app in order to access the personal assistant. This could be a win-win for everyone involved. Developers keep users inside their apps even if they want to use Google Assistant. Google gets more users activating the Assistant, and users have the ability to find out answers to certain questions without jumping in and out of an app.
