LG Zone 4 arrives at Verizon, costs less than $150 on prepaid

The first details about the budget-friendly LG Zone 4 emerged back in December when we learned the South Korean company plans to drop the “Optimus” name and bring the smartphone to the US carrier.

One month later the handset was spotted at FCC (Federal Communications Commission), thus confirming the initial report claiming the LG Zone 4 will eventually make its debut in the US.

Well, it appears that the sequel to the LG Optimus Zone 2 and Optimus Zone 3 is now available for purchase at Verizon, and it looks like you won’t have to break the bank to get this one. The affordable LG Zone …

Asus ZenFone 4 Pro starts getting Android 8.0 Oreo update

Asus continues to update its ZenFone 3 and 4 smartphones, which it said it would bring to Android 8.0 Oreo by the second half of the year. The latest addition to the list of smartphones with Android Oreo is the ZenFone 4 Pro, Asus’ flagship from last year.

The ZenFone 4 Pro (model ZS551KL) is eligible for the update starting today, but it might take several days until it reaches all units. Aside from Android Oreo’s new features, Asus included some of its own, such as a “long screenshot” function, a more friendly setting UI design, as well as a fully redesigned emoji set.

Also, the …

4 ways to turn the Oscars' promise of equality and inclusion into reality

Until Frances McDormand took the stage to accept her Oscar in the ceremony’s final minutes, the show featured a parade of good-looking, extravagantly dressed celebrities paying important lip service to equality and inclusion in Hollywood.

With an empowering gesture toward all Oscar-nominated women in the building and two words (“inclusion rider“), McDormand forced the audience to consider what needs to happen in the wake of the heady awards celebration: real action.

It was a moment beyond Stacy L. Smith’s wildest dreams. As the founder and director of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative at the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism at the University of Southern California, Smith has spent more than a decade studying what she calls Hollywood’s “epidemic of invisibility.”  Read more…

Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus hands-on

By now, it seems that the majority of Android-powered tablets released throughout the year have been largely cost-conscious, just because it doesn’t seem as though there is much of a market anymore for high-end, premium ones. Now, if you’re looking for one that manages to strike a balance with its design, specs, and price point, the Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus might be worth considering.

Yes, the model name can be a little bit confusing, but what we’re dealing here is an 8-inch Android tablet that’s in its 4th generation. Out of the box, the most intriguing thing about the Lenovo Tab 4 8 …

Some Surface Pro 4 owners put their slate in the ice box to stop screen from flickering

A small number of Surface Pro 4 owners are having trouble with flickering screens. Given the name Flickergate by some, the problem has been discussed on Microsoft’s support forums by those unfortunate enough to find themselves with one of the tablets exhibiting this behavior. The big problem for these owners (said to include at least 1,600 people), is that their expensive slate is no longer covered by the warranty.

Microsoft says that it is aware of the issue, but so far the gang in Redmond is only closely monitoring the situation. Since the flickering usually takes place when the …

Switch to MetroPCS and get 4 lines of unlimited LTE data for $100

MetroPCS, a T-Mobile prepaid brand since 2013, has a tempting offer for anyone willing to ditch a competing US carrier in 2018. If you switch to MetroPCS and port-in your number, you can get four lines of unlimited monthly LTE data, talk, and text for $100 – that’s just $25 per line. You can even add a 5th line at just $25 per month, but not a 6th one. There’s a downside to all this, as tethering (aka sharing your internet connection) is not available. Even so, we’d say this is a nice deal for families.
If you don’t need four lines of service, MetroPCS …
