OnePlus confirms Face Unlock is coming soon to the OnePlus 3 and 3T

Great news for OnePlus users, as the Chinese handset maker has just confirmed two other of its smartphones will receive the Face Unlock feature via a software update. Although the OnePlus 5T was the first smartphone launched by the company to include this security feature, the OnePlus 5 got it as well.

Three weeks ago OnePlus announced that by popular demand, Face Unlock will be added to the OnePlus 5, and one week later delivered on that promise via an Open Beta update.

During an interview with CNET, OnePlus’ co-founder Carl Pei confirmed the OnePlus 3 …

User spots OnePlus 3T sending their clipboard data to servers in China

OnePlus gets in hot water every now and again over privacy concerns, and now, there’s another little controversy brewing. A keen OnePlus 3T user who happened to be monitoring the traffic that goes in and out of their network noticed something weird when they updated to the latest beta build for their device. Apparently, the handset was sending clipboard information directly to AliBaba Group servers.

So, basically, anything you hit “copy” on — web addresses, contacts, photos, etc. — can be sent over to AliBaba, which is one of the biggest e-commerce sites to come out of China.

Although the last OnePlus 3 and 3T update of the year is nothing major, it still brings a couple of new features that were requested by fans. Also, the December security patch is making its way into both OnePlus smartphones less than a month after its official release.

Owners of the OnePlus 3T enrolled in the beta program should look for Open Beta 18, while OnePlus 3 beta testers will receive Open Beta 27. Although they are numbered differently, the updates include the same changes.

Thanks to OnePlus’ Open Beta program, a beta version of Android 8.0 is now available for the two aforementioned models. There are some known issues with this build, not surprising considering its beta status, and not all of the features will be running smoothly, or even running at all.

Before listing the official changelog, it’s worth pointing out that …

OnePlus 3 and 3T beta update patches the BlueBorne vulnerability, adds new screen calibration

OnePlus has just announced a new software update is available for its last year flagships, the OnePlus 3 and 3T, but only in the open beta channel. Even so, it shouldn’t take the Chinese company more than a week to make it available to everyone owning one of the two smartphones.

The most important change is the patching of the BlueBorne vulnerability. A security issue that was discovered last week, BlueBorne makes all devices with Bluetooth (except those using Bluetooth Low Energy only) vulnerable for takeover from as far as 32 feet away.

Basically, a person can take over your Android …
