Chinese smartphone shipments declined in 2017 for the first time ever

No, 2017 was not a good year for smartphone shipments into China. According to research firm Canalys, for all of last year such deliveries declined 4% from 2016’s figure to hit 459 million units. That is the first time ever that the country experienced a year-over-year decline in shipments of intelligent handsets. Had the last three months of last year turned out differently, the growth streak might have continued. From October through December of 2017, just shy of 113 million phones made their way into China. That was a 14% decline from Q4 2016.

The Clone Wars continue: Samsung phones were the most copied in 2017, according to benchmark stats

So, it’s a well-known fact that there are a number of nameless manufacturers over in China that make complete copies of well-known smartphones. Not your average “borrowing of ideas”, but an actual clone, usually with a weak hardware and super-cheap price to draw as much attention as it can.

Popular benchmark company AnTuTu has released an interesting statistic for 2017. It combed through all devices that held the AnTuTu tests from January through to December and concluded that 2.64% of all phones tested were clones or counterfeits.

Of these, the Galaxy S7 …

Two research firms say T-Mobile was tops in customer satisfaction throughout 2017; Verizon was next

Both research firms state that T-Mobile customers were more satisfied than those subscribed to rivals like Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, all throughout 2017.

Besides offering extras like free Netflix for those with two or more T-Mobile One lines, the carrier gives away several goodies …

Although we should be talking about the new lineup of Galaxy A series smartphones, a new update makes the previous models newsworthy. It appears that both Galaxy A5 and A7 (2017) smartphones have received an update that brings some important camera-related features.

The most important is called Selfie focus and it’s a new mode for the front camera that when enabled allows users to take a picture without having to tap the screen to focus on a subject.
