Huawei breaking records in 2017, over 100 million smartphones shipped so far

Chinese manufacturer Huawei has managed to ship over 100 million smartphones for the first three quarters of 2017. This translates to a year-over-year increase of 19%, which means that the company has a very high chance of surpassing the 140 million units it shipped in 2016.

Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, said that this exponential growth has managed to increase the firm’s operating revenues by more than 30% from January to September. The executive also mentioned that Huawei will seek further expansion by introducing …

Foxconn expected to ship only 25-30 million iPhone X units in 2017, down from 30-35 million

Apple will definitely have problems meeting iPhone X’s high demand, especially if we are to believe the latest reports and estimates coming from various more or less reliable sources.

Some of the data gathered by Taipei-based KGI Securities research company forecasts that Foxconn will only ship around 25-30 million iPhone X units in Q4 2017. Previously, the company’s analyst Ming-chi Kuo said around 30-35 million handsets will be shipped by the end of 2017.

On the bright side, iPhone X shipments are expected to reach a 50% on-quarter growth in Q1 2018 due …

Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) silently introduced in Europe: metal body, low price

The sequel to the Huawei Y6 Pro has just been silently introduced in Europe. The budget-friendly smartphone will soon be available for purchase in select markets for only €179. Potential customers can choose either of the three color options: black, gold and silver.

The only downside, when compared to the previous model, is …

Analyst cuts his forecast of 2017 Apple iPhone X production by 10%

According to a tech executive who is “in the know” when it comes to the production of the Apple iPhone X, the complex 3D sensors used on Face ID are still causing a major problem in the manufacturing of the device. Not terribly long ago, a financial newswire said that Apple’s yield for the iPhone X was 10%. To put that in perspective, it means that 90% of the units rolling off of the assembly line are failing to meet Apple’s standards.

The anonymous tech executive says that the dot projector, part of the TrueDepth Camera system, is responsible for the production delays. This is seconded …

Best remote control apps for Android (2017)

A few years ago, it seemed as though smartphones with IR blasters were the way to go. In an ever increasingly smarter and interconnected world, it would only make sense for us to be able to control pretty much everything from the pocket computers that we carry on us everywhere. Alas, most smartphone manufacturers would beg to differ (*cough* Samsung *cough*), and thus we see less and less devices out there, properly equipped with the hardware needed to control the devices in your house. …

High-end phone prices increased drastically in 2017, was it justified? (poll results)

We asked you last week whether you’d rather make do without fragile glass rears, a bit of extra storage, or cropp-y 2:1 displays, if you could shave a hundred off the average retail prices of high-end phones this year, and the result was overwhelmingly yes.
There has never been a year-on-year increase in flagship pricing as large as there was in 2017, and evidently most of you are at the opinion that phone makers are pushing the wrong buttons when it comes to meaningful upgrades that would justify the new normal $700+ price for a high-ender.
