'Avengers: Infinity War' is less than the sum of its parts

TwitterFacebook

Very late in Avengers: Infinity War, deep into this big apocalyptic battle with Thanos, one hero turns to another and says, “We’re in the end game now.”

It’s a heavy moment, weighed down by the trauma of everything that’s happened so far and everything we know is still to come. It underlines just how apocalyptically massive the stakes are here – how grave the danger is, and how great the cost of fighting it off to live another day.

It’s also a lie.

Infinity War isn’t the end game of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s not even the end game of the Infinity WarInfinity War, it turns out, is the first half of a two-parter, with the second half to come next year in an as-yet-untitled sequel. Read more…

The reviews for 'Avengers: Infinity War' are in and it's a free-for-all

TwitterFacebook

It’s the movie that was ten years in the making, packed with literally too many stars and heroes to count. But does it live up to all that hype?

Overall, the reviews are — in one word — breathless. In two words: breathless and/or exhausted. Clearly, Marvel brought all its game to this epic final battle. Some were more wary than others (I guess 19 movies will do that to any franchise, even Marvel). But while everyone had their own individual critiques and flaws to point out, the general agreement is that you will not be disappointed.

Mashable’s own Angie Han deemed it an aggressively fine ride in the grand scheme of things: Read more…

The only thing better than the 'Avengers: Infinity War' trailer is this parody

TwitterFacebook

By now you’ve probably watched the latest trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War a million times. Don’t worry, we’re not judging you. But while that trailer is fantastic and all, there is another one that might be better.

For an English class project, students cobbled together a frame-for-frame remake of the trailer. If you can’t wait for the film’s release on April 27th, watching this on repeat might tide you over.

Captain America's fugitive beard is the real star of the 'Avengers: Infinity War' concept art

TwitterFacebook

Turns out, Captain America can rock one hell of a beard. And you don’t have to just take our word for it anymore.

While Marvel Studios has yet to release any Avengers: Infinity War footage online, they have been giving out concept art posters at Comic-Con this weekend, and those posters offer an early peek at what our heroes will look like in action.

It all started a few days ago with this official announcement from the Marvel Twitter account.

SDCC-ers, we’re giving away this #InfinityWar concept art poster at the #MarvelSDCC booth now! Stop by and grab one if you can..pic.twitter.com/Qtum3mDDMQ

Teen Groot will steal every 'Avengers: Infinity War' scene he's in, just watch

TwitterFacebook

You thought Baby Groot was a stone-cold scene thief? Just wait.

There’s so much to unpack from a second viewing of the Avengers: Infinity War footage that first played at D23 last and came out for an encore at Comic-Con on Saturday night, but there was one thing I utterly missed the first time that fully stood out the second:

Teen Groot.

We first met the brooding, game-obsessed teenaged Groot in one of the post-credits scenes from Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, when Peter Quill was giving him a fatherly talking-to, and he wan’t having any of it. Well, he’s barely aged at all by the time we get to Infinity War — and so settled into the background that I didn’t see him the first time around. Read more…
