Apple and iOS 11 could revolutionize smartphone photography with a next-generation image file format

At this year’s WWDC, Apple introduced that it’s adopting two new standards-based formats for storing and processing images and video, called HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) and HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) respectively.
